More posts to come, but for now Dad and I have found the Texas of Japan (built for cars, blazing sunlight, massive expanses of concrete, large buildings, even larger supermarkets...).
We`re in Shikoku and are sitting in an unnecessarily enormous building filled with books and computers, where we are using the internet for free, but it`s not a library. The woman who I asked informed us that it`s a building that was created so that people can check their email for free.... incredible. Haven`t found a place like this in Japan yet, hence no posting.
We`ve covered a lot of ground in the past two days or so. We started out leaving Tokyo for Kyoto, where we stayed for two nights and focused our tourist activities on seeing some famous Zen rock gardens and strolling along the Philosopher`s Walk with a brief detour into a couple of other temples. From Kyoto, we set out for the island of Shikoku, which is where we now are. This island is famous for a pilgrimage in which people walk entirely clad in white around 88 temples scattered around the perimeter of the island. We`re planning to spend the night at a Buddhist temple tonight, which is similar accommodation to the pilgrims! Very exciting! From here, we`ll go to Hiroshima to see the Peace Park and Miyajima Island. After Hiroshima, we`re thinking about Osaka, Kobe or Nagasaki... wherever the wind takes us!!!
