I explored Kyu-Furukawa Tei-en today, which is an estate set in a hillside near my apartment. The top of the hill houses a Scottish-style manor and an English-style garden and the bottom has a Japanese style garden built into the hillside. Riku Gi En is nearby Japanese style circular garden where you walk around a large pond many times, each time taking a new path and seeing new scenes. This garden is supposed to recreate miniature landscapes made famous in traditional Japanese poems called waka.

Good photos -- I like these gardens better than Boboli. Esp. the Japanese garden.
